National Nurses Week Starts May 6!
Wednesday, May 6 marks the beginning of National Nurses Week!
National Nurses Week always begins on May 6 and ends on May 12, Florence Nightingale’s birthday. Nightingale was the founder of modern nursing, coming to prominence while serving as a manager and trainer of nurses during the Crimean War in which she organized care for wounded soldiers.
The celebratory week is supported by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and provides an opportunity to give recognition to nurses and educate the public about the impact nurses have on health and the prevention of disease.
The first National Nurses Week was observed from October 11-16 in 1954. As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week each year.
At Accord, we value our incredible Home Health nurses. Our nurses provide the people we support with individualized home visits to assist with day-to-day medical care. This support option provides help in an individual’s own home. A nurse visits them on a regular basis to assist with medication management and education, and to assess their mental health and stability. Our services are designed to promote wellness and recovery, with an emphasis on psychiatric rehabilitation.
Psychiatric rehabilitation focuses on using a person’s strengths to develop coping strategies to address challenges in problem solving, social interactions, and daily living. Each person supported by Accord works with a team to develop a support plan and identifies services that will address his or her needs.
Please join us in thanking our Home Health nurses for all of their hard work both year-round and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of their dedication, we are able to continue to provide services to the people we support during this difficult time. They have been working diligently to provide telehealth and other modified services. Because of them, we are able to continue helping people live their greatest lives.
