Minnesota to Spend $40 Million to Aid Healthcare Industry Amid Staffing Shortages
Thanks to Governor Tim Walz, January is officially recognized as Health Care Month in Minnesota. Walz hopes that his formal proclamation will highlight the tremendous impact that health workers and the healthcare industry has on the state of Minnesota, especially during the ongoing pandemic, as well as encourage more people to consider a future career in the industry.
The healthcare industry is the largest job sector in the state of Minnesota in terms of people employed, though the current and future demand for health care workers is high. To help ease some of the pressure caused by nationwide shortages, Walz recently announced that Minnesota will spend $40 million in COVID-19 relief funds to hire approximately 350 more healthcare workers, and is working on a contract with a staffing agency to aid in the effort.
