Family Support Services

Do you or someone you know help take care of a person with a disability? How would you like to be paid for providing this valuable support? Accord’s Family Support Services trains and pays individuals who provide supplemental care beyond primary caregiving.

Here’s How It Works:

  1. The person needing care and their family choose someone to provide this extra support. This may be another family member, a neighbor, a friend, or someone they’ve hired.
  2. Accord does a background check into the chosen person before hiring them.
  3. Accord provides all orientation and training and pays all wages and benefits to the supplemental caregiver, including paid time off and workers’ compensation.
  4. Coordinators check in every few weeks to make sure things are going well and that the caregiver’s training is up to date.

 Provided Services

Family Support Services includes personal supports, respite care, homemaker services, and night supervision services provided in an individual’s home or community. This waiver-funded program was created to help increase their independence and inclusion.

Situations Where Family Support Services Can Help

This program is designed to help pay those who naturally provide support. Some examples include a neighbor who comes over twice a week to take care of a child, a friend who cleans the house periodically, or a family member who covers for the primary caregiver when they need a break to take care of their own needs.

Other Eligible Services May Include:

  • Doing the laundry
  • Prepping meals
  • Shopping for groceries
  • Performing household repairs
  • Grooming
  • And more
