Life Sharing is an alternative housing option for adults looking for a shared living experience. Unlike group housing or adult foster care, Life Sharing gives the individual the freedom to choose where they live and who they live with, putting them in control. The goal of Life Sharing is interdependence between the individual and the family, with the individual having control over how they spend their days.

Life Sharing May Be a Good Option for Someone Who:

  • Isn’t a good fit for a group home (or doesn’t want to live in one)
  • Isn’t quite ready to live on their own
  • Is in another living situation that isn’t working

Accord’s Family Support Services allows Individuals and Families choosing their own employee where the ultimate goal is to increase independence and community connections. For those without people ready to act as staff, Accord assists in locating employees for these services.

FSS is a model of services that empowers individuals to be able to have the right person filling their support needs. Many people with disabilities already have natural supports in their lives who already provide supports for them, and FSS is a way in which these friends and family members can be paid.
