Happy Case Management Week 2020!

National Case Management Week 2020 is October 11-17! Join us as we recognize and show appreciation for case management and care professionals across the country. This year’s theme is Transitions Through Care, Expertise, and Integrity. We hope that you will celebrate National Case Management Week and recognize the dedication, compassion, and patient care outcomes achieved by case managers in your organization. Across all care settings, case managers are making a big difference!

Over the past few decades, Case Management Week has become embedded into the case management community as an annual, week-long celebration of this essential healthcare practice. During this important week, we encourage everyone in our field to uplift each other with stories about our experiences so we can continue to stay strong and show support for those essential workers in our communities who are providing important care to the people we support.

What is Case Management?

Care managers are advocates who help patients understand their current health status, what they can do about it, and why those treatments are important. In this way, care managers are catalysts by guiding patients and providing cohesion to other professionals in the health care delivery team, enabling their clients to achieve goals more effectively and efficiently.

History of National Case Management Week

Plans for National Case Management Week first began in 1998 as an effort to help move the Case Management industry forward. The Case Management Society of America Board of Directors agreed to a Case Management Week celebration during the week of October 10, 1999, a date chosen in honor of the Association’s establishment on October 10, 1990.

Later, it was decided to mark the second full week in October each year as National Case Management Week. As the idea quickly spread, other organizations also began to establish their own Case Management Week celebrations.

Why We Celebrate Case Managers?

The purpose of Case Management Week is twofold. First, it is designed to help bring attention to the contributions and commitments case managers make. Secondly, case managers are encouraged to educate others about what they do in order to increase awareness about the industry. This includes spreading the information to patients and their families, consumers, other departments in their company, other professionals, government entities, etc.

Thank You Case Managers!

We recognize this year is different. Health care professionals from across the country have been challenged by our new normal. With each challenge we have heard countless stories of case management professionals stepping up to positively impact the people they support. To all of the case managers at Accord and beyond: Thank you for your efforts, your expertise, your dedication, and your compassion!
