The Power of Mindfulness: How Meditation Can Reduce Anxiety

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health issues in the United States and is estimated that around 18 percent of adults will experience anxiety in their lifetimes. Though extremely common, anxiety can be debilitating and prevent people from living their lives to the fullest.

There are many treatments for anxiety, including medication, therapy, and various lifestyle changes. Meditation is one lifestyle change that can be extremely helpful and effective for anxiety.

Simply put, meditation is a practice that involves focusing on your breathing or a mantra to calm the mind. It has been shown to be helpful for anxiety and other mental health issues.

If you are struggling with anxiety, consider trying meditation as a solution. There are several methods to practice, so find one that works best for you, whether you take a class, watch a video or download a guided meditation app on your smartphone.

Because there are so many types of meditation, it is so important to find one that works best for you. Some popular types include.

  • Mindfulness meditation: This type of meditation involves focusing on your breath or thoughts without judgment.
  • Transcendental meditation: This type of meditation involves repeating a mantra to achieve a state of deep relaxation.
  •  Guided meditation: This type of meditation involves following guided audio or video to help you focus and relax.
  • Zen meditation: This type of mediation involves sitting with your eyes closed and focusing on your breathing

This list may be extensive, but each form has the same goal: to learn to concentrate effectively and calm your thoughts. If you are struggling with anxiety, it may be helpful to try out a few different types of mediation until you find one that works best for you.

Meditation can be a great way to soothe an anxious mind and slow anxiety-inducing thoughts. Don’t be discouraged if one way of meditation isn’t successful for you. Multiple attempts may be needed until you discover the perfect fit for you.
