Robin Williams’ Son, Mental Health Advocate Zak Williams, Honors Father with Newborn Son’s Name

Robin Williams’ son, Zak Williams, is honoring his late father’s memory by naming his newborn son after him.

Zak, a mental health advocate and entrepreneur, and his fiancé Olivia June, welcomed McLaurin Clement Williams on May 22. The baby boy’s first name is Robin’s middle name.

The Williams children have been very open about advocating for mental health after their famous father’s suicide in 2014. Zak, along with siblings Zelda and Cody, have all advocated for the stigma around mental health to change.

“There’s a realization that everyone is fighting a different battle and you can’t fight it for someone else but you can try to understand,” Zelda Williams told Women’s Health in 2017. “Part of the first step toward, even before acceptance, but just toward understanding is actually listening and learning.”

Like his sister, Zak has been very open about becoming an advocate for mental health and has participated in many volunteer opportunities at places like local prisons. He says he’s been able to heal through helping others.

“Dad had almost a childlike love, and he shared that love with people, with everyone. And that ability to love, and that ability to be generous and giving and kind is something we would want to share with future generations,” Zak told Us Weekly in 2014.
